You are French?  Je suis.

You speak French?  Mais oui.

I don’t speak French.  Non?

I speak English.  Bon!

A tiny treasure by American poet David T.W. McCord (1897 – 1997).  I have taken it from his One at a Time: His Collected Poems for the Young, published in 1977.  This was also the year McCord became the first-ever recipient of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children.
